The Ford Family Foundation was founded by Kenneth and Hallie Ford to give back to their rural, timber communities. Our mission is “Successful Citizens and Vital Rural Communities.” In the early childhood arena, we aim to complete this mission by focusing on and investing in young children’s health, quality early care and education, and strong families so that children enter Kindergarten ready to succeed.
Our reason for joining ECFC:
We can’t wait to learn alongside new peers! We joined the ECFC because we know we have so much more to learn about partnering effectively with: individuals caring for/educating young children, non-profits, philanthropic peers and the public sector on issues related to school-readiness. We also believe that we have a unique perspective to share about working exclusively in rural communities.
Where our work is focused:
Local, state and regional. The Ford Family Foundation’s works throughout rural Oregon and Siskiyou County, California. We have three “core counties” – two in Oregon and one in California – where the early childhood development investments are often more intensive.
What we want to work on with our peers:
Working across sectors; knitting separate parenting support efforts into a unified, statewide approach; increasing access to high-quality, affordable infant/toddler care and preschool; how to lift up influential stories; use of place-based approaches, and how to prioritize support for short term and long-term efforts.
