One of ECFC’s overarching goals is to promote federal, state, and local policies and practices that support young children, their families, and the early childhood community. ECFC has a unique collective voice on policy issues shaped by years of investment in early childhood. Building on their individual philanthropic experience, members share a vision to support the healthy development of young children. ECFC members believe that all children deserve a level playing field of opportunities, with the most vulnerable benefiting from increased services and investments. Although private philanthropy and public-private partnerships can make a difference in the well-being of children and families, they can only augment public budgets that include adequate health and mental health care, education (including robust support for high quality early care and education), and economic policies that support children and families to thrive. Communicating this vision to policy makers and influencers and sharing lessons learned from their investments in early childhood is an important strategy for ECFC.
